The Polish centre of the Amethyst network has been in operation since December 2013. It was established in the immediate neighbourhood of the Ludwik Rydygier Specialist Hospital in Kraków with which it works very closely. The Amethyst Radiotherapy Centre in Kraków has radiotherapy and oncological gynaecology outpatient clinics, tele-radiotherapy and brachytherapy laboratories. The Centre receives 3,000 patients every year.

Patients can request consultations without a referral from another physician. All medical services at the Amethyst Radiotherapy Centre are free and provided under a contract with the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ). The Centre offers a quick path to diagnosis and comprehensive oncological treatment within the Ministry of Health’s oncological package.

The Medical Director of the Amethyst Radiotherapy Centre is Dr n. med. Marcin Hetnał, specialist doctor of oncological radiotherapy. The Centre employs 100 staff of whom 11 are radiotherapy doctors, 10 are medical physicists and 18 are electro-radiology technicians. It is a team of highly qualified specialists who regularly undergo specialist continuous training, domestically and abroad. The Amethyst Radiotherapy Centre in Krakow is now the only non-public centre offering the possibility of post-graduate training for doctors – currently, there are 5 specialist medical registrars there. The Centre offers patients and their families consultations with a psycho-oncologist and a dietician taking care of proper nutrition for patients during their treatment.

The Amethyst Radiotherapy Centre in Kraków is provided with world-class equipment – three Elekta Synergy accelerators as well as Phillips tomography device enabling the application of highly-specialist radiotherapy techniques (IMRT, VMAT). The process of treatment planning has been fully computerised. In order to identify, with absolute precision, the area affected with neoplastic disease, physicians use 22-inch graphic tablets.

Patients in Kraków can be provided with outpatient treatment and hotel-based treatment is also offered. A special Radiotherapy Ward has been set up at the Ludwik Rydygier Specialist Hospital in Kraków for in-patients with symptoms which may need radiotherapy.
